A Wolf-themed card

I had the brief this week to create a card for a 12th birthday, for a boy who liked wolves, gaming, texture/glitter and other things. I have recently joined the Crafts Subscription with Creative Fabrica and wanted to start using my Cricut Maker more often, so went into Creative Fabrica and searched for ‘Wolf’. Lots of lovely options came up and chose this stunning design.

After downloading it and unzipping the file, I took it into Cricut Design Space and saved as a cut file (there was also the print & cut option), as I wanted to draw it with the machine and a metallic pen.

It drew it beautifully (just on a piece of white card from my scrap box) and I then used one of my new Sizzix dies to cut the two border strips (so I also used my new Sizzix Bigshot Express machine – a very productive session!). I backed it onto a piece of cork card from Create & Craft, cut to size. This was mounted onto a piece of card with a slight gold glitter. I then added a bit of gold glitter to the wolf design with a Gelly Roll pen (my favourite!).

The insert was designed using the My Craft Studio program (email me at hello@aliwade.com if you want to know more about that) and a couple of designs from the Rare Earth Delicious Digis Vol.2 usb. Just printed onto good quality printer paper with my Epson XP-950 printer.

I really enjoyed designing a card again and using some tech/stash that was new to me.

My supplies were –

Wolf design from Creative Fabrica

Sizzix die, Thinlits Geo Trio by Sharon Drury from Create & Craft

Cork Sheets from Create & Craft

(Unfortunately the Rare Earth Delicious Digis Vol 2 has sold out. I couldn’t find it on Ebay, but perhaps a request on one of the Facebook craft stash groups could be fruitful.)

Sakura Gelly Roll Stardust pen in Gold from Craft Stash

(I wasn’t able to find the exact Cricut pen I used either – the Gel Pen Set, Metallic Dark Petals, seems to be out of stock everywhere. However, it is a metallic grey.)

Designing a greetings card in Canva

Canva, you say! Isn’t that for designing business cards, logos and social media images? Well, yes it is, but also so much more. I will be doing a variety of projects in the next few weeks, using Canva for at least one part of it. Yesterday I made a 3rd birthday card for our youngest granddaughter.

I started with a blank A4 document on Canva, and then did a search within Elements for ‘3’. The floral number and the pink balloons came up, and I copied/pasted/resized to make up the backing paper and the large embellishment. A search for ‘flower girl’ and then ‘Happy Birthday’ (within Text) completed what I needed – I just edited the text to include 3rd. This was printed out onto good quality paper with my Epson printer.

The backing paper and large number were trimmed to fit my card (a sheet of gold card scored and folded in half) and layered onto some of my favourite ‘Mermaid Ombre Glitter Card’ from Hobbycraft.

I could have used either my Cricut Maker or Silhouette Cameo to cut everything out more accurately, but for this card it was ok to just use scissors to trim down.

There you so. One quick and easy card. If anyone would like to have the project sheet sent to them, then just email me at hello@aliwade.com.

Floral Thinking Of You

Over at the Design Cuts Facebook group they have a challenge every week to use their latest freebie. I entered #89 with this pretty hybrid card.

I designed the backing paper and topper with My Craft Studio, coloured the topper with pencils and layered up with some gorgeous mermaid glitter card from Hobbycraft. The base card (with punched edging) is from stash.

(Note to my newer readers – I started this blog on Blogspot many years ago purely to be able to enter papercraft challenges. I then found the WOYWW community and even when I stopped entering challenges due to my health/caring for animals, I still kept on blogging. It was wonderful to be back entering challenges again and so happy to see that ‘Paper Playful‘ is still busy listing them – I used to create a weekly list for them. I will write a blog post soon with tips on how to find and enter challenges.)
